Our Ocean City guide
The places we return to.
Our family’s picks for an easy South End beach week—from what’s walkable to where we head when we go off-island.
From our family
Close-by favorites and a few worth the short drive.
These aren’t meant to cover every option in town. They’re the places and routines we recommend when friends ask what we like to do.
Walk from the house
Uncle Bill’s Pancake House
An easy breakfast walk and one of our favorite ways to start the day.
Sandwich Bar
Our pick when a standard hoagie won’t do and we want a more thoughtfully crafted sandwich.
Churn House
The kids’ favorite: ice cream churned with cereal and toppings at 33rd and Asbury.
Aunt Betty’s
The choice for a classic cone or a more traditional ice-cream stop.
Stock the kitchen
Wawa
An easy walk for snacks, drinks and a quick hoagie.
ACME
Close by for the key groceries and beach-week essentials.
ShopRite
Worth the drive off-island when the grocery list is longer or you want a bigger selection.
Dot’s Pastry Shop
A longtime favorite for donuts and pastries. Check its seasonal opening before making the trip.
Keep the kids moving
35th Street beach
About a block and a half from the house—close enough to come back for lunch.
Sandcastle Putt Club
A quick round of mini golf right at 34th and Asbury when you need an easy activity.
Sandcastle Park
A full-block rebuild is planned for summer 2027, with a larger playground, upgraded racquet courts and more shaded family space.
The boardwalk
Save a night for rides, games and the full Ocean City experience.
A short drive off-island
Yesterday’s Creekside Tavern
Our easy choice for a quick draft beer, wings and a game on TV.
La Fontana del Mare
A nicer Italian dinner in Strathmere when the evening calls for something more relaxed.
The Crab Trap
Classic shore fare and seafood in Somers Point.
Crabby Jack’s
Our warm-weather choice for outdoor drinks by the bay, open seasonally and weather permitting.
Our simplest recommendation
Leave a little room in the schedule.
Some of the best time is the part you don’t plan: a slow coffee on the rear deck, an extra hour on the beach or a drink out front after everyone gets back.
